Portland is the largest city in Maine, located in Cumberland County, and is home to over 66,000 residents. The city seal depicts a phoenix rising from ashes, which aligns with the city’s motto, Resurgam, Latin for “I will rise again,” a reference to Portland’s recoveries from four devastating fires. Portland is known for its working waterfront as well as the Portland Farmers' Market, which has been in continuous operation since 1768.
